Support San Miguel Literary Institute

Legacy Giving

A legacy gift is one of the most profound ways to express your commitment to literature, community, and the enduring mission of the San Miguel Literary Institute. Your planned gift will help ensure that generations of writers and readers continue to gather, learn, and be transformed.

Legacy gifts — including bequests, charitable trusts, life insurance designations, and donor-advised fund distributions — are one of the most meaningful ways to support the Institute’s future. These gifts cost nothing today and allow you to make a lasting impact that reflects your deepest values.

Whether you choose to establish a named scholarship fund, support ongoing programming, or contribute to our endowment, your legacy gift will be recognized and stewarded with care for years to come.

Types of Legacy Gifts

Bequest in Will

A bequest is a gift made through your will or living trust. You may designate a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the residue of your estate to San Miguel Literary Institute. Bequests are revocable and cost nothing during your lifetime.

Charitable Remainder Trust

A charitable remainder trust (CRT) provides income to you or your beneficiaries for life or a term of years, with the remainder passing to the Institute. CRTs can reduce capital gains taxes on appreciated assets while providing a lifetime income stream.

Life Insurance Designation

You may name San Miguel Literary Institute as the beneficiary — or a contingent beneficiary — of a life insurance policy. This is a simple, flexible way to make a meaningful legacy gift without affecting your current assets.

Donor-Advised Fund

If you hold a donor-advised fund (DAF) through Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, or another sponsor, you may recommend a grant to San Miguel Literary Institute now or designate the Institute to receive distributions from your DAF upon your death.

Tax and Legal Information

San Miguel Literary Institute is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Estate gifts may be deductible from your taxable estate, and certain life income arrangements may generate a partial charitable income tax deduction.

We strongly encourage you to consult with your attorney, financial planner, or tax advisor before making any planned gift arrangements. We are happy to provide our legal name, EIN, and other documentation as needed to facilitate your gift.
